What we do?
JOBWIJS (Joint Opportunities in Brussels: Work, Inclusion, Justice & Skills) leverages AI literacy to drive participation. The project targets job seekers, traget group employees in the social economy, and their supervisors from Brussels and the Brussels periphery.
In our sector, we observe both resistance and need: people with lower digital literacy can actually benefit from AI as a practical tool. Previous AI workshops showed that this target group primarily uses AI as a kind of companion, a strating point that JOBWIJS wants to build upon. Not only for the job search, burt also for daily life.
JOBWIJS works around five pillars:
1. Literacy training
Article 4 of the European AI Act obliges organisations to ensure that employees possess suffient AI literacy. At JOBWIJS, we go a step further: we view AI literacy not only as an obligation, but also a right: a right to agility for every employee and job seeker.
Through free on-the-job training, job seekers, target group employees, and supervisors learn their way through the AI landscape, including both the opportunities and the risks. A key feature of our approach is that we train target group employees and supervisory staff together. In this way, supervisors experience firsthand what AI can mean and learn to view things through the eyes of the target group, and vice versa.
AI literacy training content:
- What is AI, how does it work, and where is it used?
- What are the dangers? (Errors, bias, privacy, dependency, sustainability)
- How can you use (generative) AI in your daily life and in the workplace?
Practical:
- For whom: Organisations from Brussels and the surrounding area that guide job seekers to work, and social economy organisations or companies that employ people with a distance to the the labor market.
- Where: in jouw organisatie
- Price: Free
- Duration: 3 hours including a coffee break
- Group size: 6 to 15 participants, mix of target group & supervisory staff
- You provide: a room with Wi-Fi, screen and projector, water & coffee/tea
- Each participant brings his/her own smartphone.

2. Train the trainer
Through train-the-trainer sessions, we bring methodologies directly to supervisors, enabling them to sustainably pass on this expertise. Topics covered include: building a safe learning environment, using AI in supervision, and AI in the labor market.
We have a general shortened online training course that you can register for individually, you can do that here.
We would also be happy to come by for a training session tailored to your company. We prefer to do this at locations where we have already provided literacy training. You can request a Train-the-Trainer session via our contact form.
3. Pilot project
In this pilot project, we experiment collaboratively with partners to develop knowledge through co-creation. Partners gain access to premium tools for testing and evaluation. Through five sessions (both live and online), we share expertise, identify bottlenecks and exchange successful use cases.

4. Ethical research
An ethical research component runs like a common thread trough JOBWIJS. We take critical questions regarding the use of AI seriously. We seek human-centered applications with extra attention to privacy, ethics, inclusion and sustainability.
